Things to do in Vaishno Devi (Katra)
Vaishno Devi Trek & Bhawan
Vaishno Devi Trek and Bhawan is a Hindu pilgrimage site on Trikuta mountain in Jammu and Kashmir. The 13 km climb leads to the cave shrine dedicated to Vaishno Devi, a manifestation of goddesses Mahakali, Mahalakshmi, and Mahasarasvati.
Tip: Wear warm layers as the mountain weather can get chilly
Bhairon Nath Temple
Bhairon Nath Temple is located in Vaishno Devi, Jammu and Kashmir, and marks the final leg of the sacred pilgrimage. A ropeway connects the shrine from Bhawan, as local belief holds that the yatra is incomplete without paying respects here.
Tip: Check ropeway operating hours and weather conditions before starting
Ardhkuwari
Ardhkuwari is a major holy site in the Trikuta Mountains and serves as the main resting point on the walk to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine. It features a sacred midway cave temple tied to Hindu stories about the goddess Vaishno Devi.
Katra–Sanjichhat Helicopter
The Katra-Sanjichhat Helicopter service is a convenient one-way flight option for pilgrims travelling to Vaishno Devi in Jammu and Kashmir. It significantly reduces the strenuous mountain trek by dropping passengers close to the shrine area.
Tip: Book your tickets well in advance online through the official shrine board website.
Banganga
Banganga is a sacred river temple located at the very start of the pilgrimage track to Vaishno Devi in Katra, Jammu and Kashmir. Pilgrims stop here to wash their feet and pay their respects before beginning the long trek ahead.
Tip: Wear comfortable footwear that is easy to remove as you prepare to start the walking track
Chenab Rail Bridge
The Chenab Rail Bridge is the world's highest railway arch bridge, spanning the river gorge in Jammu and Kashmir. Located between Kauri and Bakkal rail stations on the Jammu-Baramulla line, this steel and concrete structure features a massive deck arch design.
Tip: Carry valid identification as security around railway projects in the region can be strict.
Patnitop
Patnitop is a pine-covered hill resort located 85 km away in Jammu and Kashmir. It offers peaceful walks surrounded by dense forests and scenic mountain views.
